JIA Program Governance
The board of the Schweser Institute is responsible for overseeing the creation of the JIA curriculum and the JIA exams. The board also sets the passing score for each JIA exam and is responsible for the integrity of the JIA exam process.
JIA Disciplinary and Ethics Committee
The Disciplinary and Ethics Committee for the JIA designation is made up of members of the JIA staff, JIA Certificate holders, and the Schweser Institute Board. JIA certificate holders are bound by the JIA Ethical Standards as well as the laws and regulatory rules in their country of domicile. The committee is responsible for investigating any complaints lodged against JIA designees, making a determination on each complaint, and determining appropriate action, which may include:

Dr. Carl Schweser, CFACarl Schweser founded Schweser Study Program for the CFA® exam in 1990. After earning his CFA charter in 1982, Carl taught CFA review classes at the Study Seminar for Financial Analysts® under the mentorship of Ed Rosenbaum. As CFA candidate numbers grew and the rigor of the exam increased, Carl felt students would benefit from focused study manuals and more varied methods of content delivery. Carl earned his doctorate in finance at the University of Georgia, specializing in investment finance. Carl taught investments, corporate finance, and entrepreneurship for 25 years and served as chairman of the Department of Finance at the University of Iowa. He has published or presented more than two dozen papers and articles. |
Dr. Andrew Temte, CFAAndrew Temte is CEO of Kaplan Professional. Dr. Temte started his financial services education career in 1990, working with Dr. Carl Schweser until 1999 to build Schweser Study Program into the global leader in CFA® (Chartered Financial Analyst®) exam review.
Upon Schweser's acquisition by Kaplan, Inc. (a subsidiary of the Washington Post) in 1999, Dr. Temte assumed leadership of the Kaplan Schweser organization. Under his direction, Kaplan Schweser has become a leading global provider of innovative, efficient, and effective financial education solutions. In October 2007 he assumed responsibility for the Kaplan Financial Education division, which provides study tools for high-stakes securities and licensing exams as well as the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM designation. |
Dr. Tim Smaby, CFA, FRMTim Smaby is Chief Learning Officer of Kaplan Schweser and Kaplan Financial Education, and oversees all content development and production for Kaplan Professional's insurance, securities, and advanced designations education. He earned his doctorate in finance at the University of Cincinnati. Prior to joining Kaplan, Dr. Smaby was an associate professor of finance at Penn State Erie. |
Dr. Doug Van Eaton, CFADoug Van Eaton is the Head of CFA Education for the Kaplan Schweser division of Kaplan Professional Education. He earned his doctorate in finance from the University of Washington and taught at the University of North Texas and at Texas Christian University prior to joining Schweser. |
Dr. Assem Safieddine, FRM, CVAAssem Safieddine is the Managing Director of the Institute for Financial Analysts (IFA). He is the Associate Dean for academic programs and faculty affairs and the Chairperson of the Finance, Accounting and Managerial Economics Track, and the Director of the Corporate Governance Program at Olayan School of Business at the American University of Beirut. He is the founding president of the Lebanese CFA Society, the regional director of the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP), and the president of the Lebanese Risk Management Society. He earned his doctorate in finance from Boston College. |
